Equine Assisted Learning

Equine Assisted Learning is a powerful, effective method of experiential learning to help clients with self-regulation and the development of better social and emotional skills. By helping clients to become more aware of their thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours, they can then start to make changes to help transform their lives.

LEARNING THROUGH DOING

Horses model a number of positive social and emotional behaviours that can be observed during sessions.  Client also get the unique opportunity to practice and try out different behaviours in a safe setting, whilst receiving instant feedback from the horses.

Through these interaction with the horses, clients can experiment with new thought patterns, behaviours and way of being, this helps to build new neural pathways in the brain.

This opportunity to practice and’ try out’ new behaviours means that clients learning is increased and means that new more positive behaviour is more likely to be incorporated into their daily lives.

DISCOVER A BETTER WAY OF BEING

EAL is suitable for anyone.  Whether you are suffering from anxiety or depressions, have a diagnosed mental health condition or illness and want to develop better social and emotional skills, have suffered trauma in the past or simply want to develop more positive behaviours to help you achieve the life you want.

KEY LEARNING AREAS

Sessions can explore any behaviour patterns that a client would like to address. EAL has proven to be very effective for helping to manage anxiety through better self-regulation and emotional control, as it is not a traditional therapy clients often feel more relaxed and open, helping to create positive learning outcomes.

There are several learning areas sessions focus on.  These are outlines below;

  • How to regulate and calm your nervous system

  • Develop awareness of your thoughts and feelings as well as those around you

  • How to develop and implement boundaries

  • Healthy relationships

  • Kind and helpful thoughts

  • Feelings as natural

  • Facing life’s challenges

Sometimes it can be helpful to step outside of the conventional and explore life from a new perspective.

We see everyone as wonderful just as they are.  You are not broken, you just have different ways of viewing things and different skills to those than the world generally recognises.  So sometimes we need a little help to let our light shine.  We may have some destructive behaviours or thoughts that are stopping us being the very best we can be.

Sessions can be one on one or in a group setting depending upon your needs.

Healing Hooves Works with several youth groups, veteran groups and women’s groups to deliver 5 to 7 week courses and one off sessions.

We also work with a number of individuals with self and plan managed NDIS plans.
